Yellow Notes #61

Estimated read time: 2.5 mins

Hey all,

You might notice our newsletter looks slightly different today - we just moved over to the beehiiv platform. So if there is a kink or two in the next few weeks, that’s why.

It’s been a busy week in the D2C world, particularly with Labor Day and the long weekend. Anecdotally, hearing a lot of D2C brands report awesome performance over the long weekend sales-wise, but then experiencing a dip starting on Tuesday.

You might not have seen this before, but Kno Commerce, a post-purchase survey tool, partnered with Common Thread Collective to create a D2C Confidence Index. It’s an awesome tool that leverages the customer survey data of 5K+ shoppers from Kno Commerce stores to create a confidence index of the macro environment.

DTC Confidence Index

I thought it was interesting to share this week because it dipped to it’s lowest point in 3 months after this Labor Day. Almost a 15% drop. It could be for a variety of reasons like “post-discount hangover” but it’s almost impossible to figure out the “why” behind the trend.

Regardless, it’s an interesting tool for D2C operators to have in their back pocket to understand market performance and general consumer trends.

If there’s one thing us D2C folks have learned over the last few years, it’s that the macro environment has a major role in our success — and that’s what this tool helps us try to understand in as real-time as it gets.

Check out the tool here.

We have some new things in the pipeline for 1-800-D2C! You’ll see later on this month that we’re starting a new newsletter series to highlight the top D2C brands and tools that join our directory that month. It’ll be a great way to call out some awesome new D2C brands and tech tools on our platform.

We also have an interesting Under The Hood coming out soon with Carolyn Horner, she’s the CEO of Unbloat and an entrepreneur in residence at GatewayX. Stay tuned. It’ll be a great read.

OK, now let’s get to our tool and brand of the week!

Tool of The Week: Awtomic

Awtomic

Awtomic

Meet Awtomic, a leading experience-focused retention platform for D2C brands. Awtomic leverages customer data and insights to drive repeat purchases, loyalty and engagement. They have some awesome features: build-a-box, shuffles and automated retention Milestones help brands drive better customer retention performance.

Awtomic’s build-a-boxes shine with the most thorough subscription integration and setup that can be built in minutes. They have the whole flow nailed from CX to operations and, most importantly, the customer experience. You can even set up custom filters, navigation and box size discounts.

One unique feature of Awtomic is their Milestones feature - their platform leverages data and insights from customer activity to deliver personalized rewards and communications.

You can also leverage Shuffles to give your customers the ability to buy a subscription where the product changes each shipment. This is relevant for brands with lots of flavors, scents or colors or even products that wouldn’t typically work for subscriptions like toys, underwear, and more.

Brand of The Week: Oat Haus

Oat Haus

Meet Oat Haus, the world’s first oat-based spread. Their original flavor has the warm, cinnamon taste of granola and the silky smooth texture of a nut butter.

Their oat-based spreads look incredible. Plus, we love their Build-a-Box subscription program. Sorry if this made you hungry :)

That’s all we have for today. Shoot me a reply here if you found anything particularly interesting in this newsletter. Would love to hear!

Talk to you next week!

-RC
